Fíorghael - Irish Language Film Festival

Manchester Irish Language Group together with the Manchester branch of Conradh na Gaeilge are holding the first ever irish language film festival in Manchester from 29th september - 6th october 2007.

Yu Ming is Ainm Dom & Poitin
Films followed by discussion on the theme of language and heritage featuring the Donegal author Eithne Ní Ghallchobhair.

Venue: St Kent's irish club

Venue: Cheetham Hill irish club
Time: 9.00pm
Tubberware

• Saturday 6th october
Venue: Briton's Protection
Time: 8.00pm - 11.00pm
Club Cuideachta - live traditional music and discussion in irish.

All films will be subtitled in english.

• Poitin
Director: Bob Quinn, 1977, 65 mins.
Featuring: Cyril Cusack, Donal McCann and Niall Toibin.
The first full length feature film to be made in irish. Poitin shows a dark side to rural irish life previously unportrayed by Hollywood.

A young Chinese man learns to speak Irish, but on visiting Ireland is perplexed that he can't be understood - a thought provoking and funny tale!

Tubberware looks at an another day in the life of an Irish-speaking district in the heart of Connemara.
